What is Deneb?

Deneb is a custom visual extension for Power BI that allows you to build stunning charts using Vega/Vega-Lite. Unlike built-in visuals, it lets you create fully animated, responsive layouts with rich interactivity — and no coding skills required.

Add More Visual in Power BI for Deneb

1. Click on “More Visuals” > “Get More Visuals”.

Search Deneb

2. Search for “Deneb” and click “Add”

Open Deneb in Power BI Canvas

3. Click the Deneb icon to show one onto your report canvas.

Add Measure

4. Add a measure/measures you think is right for your visual. (you can change these measures anytime so can be temporary.

Edit Deneb

5. When you click Deneb on your Power BI canvas, find “…” in any corner. Click “…” then “Edit”.

Paste JSON file

6. Drag “JSON” file to import your file on Deneb. It has to be “JSON” file format, so if you have copied the code from this site, then paste it on the memo pad once and save it with “.JSON” (e.g. yourfilename.json).

Select Measures

7. Select “Column, measure, or condition” from the drop down box, you will find measures you have entered in Step4. You can add or delete meaure/measures at this point to select proper measure for your visual. Make sure to read Author’s note on the right hand side which measure you should choose for the visual.
